The Lesser Dead/The Addiction

Details
Hey creeps—
For our next gathering, we’re sinking our teeth into The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buehlman, a gritty, darkly funny, and blood-soaked tale of teenage vampires living beneath 1978 New York. Told by an unreliable narrator with a taste for sarcasm and human flesh, this book plays with genre expectations, moral decay, and the illusion of innocence.
To go with it, we’ll be doing an in-depth discussion of The Addiction (1995, dir. Abel Ferrara), a cult black-and-white vampire film set in 90s NYC that blends horror with philosophy, addiction, trauma, and the hunger for meaning.
Both works explore:
• Vampirism as a metaphor for corruption and compulsion
• Urban decay and moral ambiguity
• The tension between intellectualism and instinct
• Power dynamics and transformation
