A wonderful 5-day project using basic carpentry woodwork skills and woodturning skills to make three-legged milking stool.

In this workshop you will learn the skills of how to measure accurately, cut precisely to join planks together using dowels. Use the ‘spindle method’ on a woodturning lathe to create the legs and use hand tools to finalise the shape of the seat. You will learn to use a drill guide to ensure the joinery is drilled at a consistent angle. The legs will be joined using the wedged tenon method.

During this 5 day workshop you will:

  • Make a seat, glue 2 pieces of timber using the dowel method and roughly shape on using the band saw.
  • Make a brace for the legs.
  • Using the lathe you will turn 3 legs
  • Create the finished shape of the seat using a spokeshave
  • Use a reamer to make leg mortices conical for strength
  • Use a tapered tenon cutter to make tapered tenon for strength

Stool dimensions approximately: 360mm high, diameter of the seat around 300mm.
