She Said: "Why Help You & Create Extra Competition?"

That’s what she said when I offered to take her to lunch to pick her brain.

• This was 1998 and I had just sold my pharmacies, the first time, and wanted to get into real estate investing.

After all, Carlton Sheets was on all the late night television channels preaching how to, “Buy Real Estate With NO Money Down.”So I bought the course (yes, Stuart I really did buy & listen to his tapes), opened the Sunday newspaper’s classified ads and started calling FSBO’s* on Monday morning.

• The first thing I learned was FSBO’s are at work on Monday morning!

Later that morning I finally spoke to a Seller.

In less than 60 seconds she answered my list of intriguing, clever & revealing questions about the property.

• Now what?

So I came clean and said, “Well I’m a real estate investor and wondered if this would make a good real estate investment.”

To which she replied, “I’m also a real estate investor and this was a good rental and now it’s time to sell.”

So I asked, “May I take you to lunch and pick-your-brain on real estate investing?”

Hence the punch line: "Why should I help you & Create Extra Competition?"

And I thought, “WOW! Someone wants to corner the real estate market in Phoenix!”

It wasn’t until later in life that I realized this person was coming from scarcity and not from a positive and prosperous perspective.

That day I promised myself that one day, when I am accomplished and have the time, energy and money that I would put on a Workshop to teach others.
