What we're about

We are a group of challenge seekers who enjoy exercising our ability to think on our feet, speak off the cuff and respond to unplanned situations.

We host weekday evening socials with a flavor of improv, creativity, and speaking. They range from our signature 'one minute speaking' zoom meetings, to social deduction games like 'Mafia'.

We also hold in-person meetups monthly in Toronto, such as ax throwing, bonfire, ice-climbing, laser tag, etc. Check out our upcoming events. Join our Discord server and mingle with 2,500+ mouthfuls worldwide: https://discord.gg/ayUwPQZtDd

🎨 “One Minute Speaking” MoMA (Mouthfuls of Modern Art)

Link visible for attendees

React to an internet meme (e.g. spongebob pajama kid). If you're up for the challenge, try to sell it as modern art for a million dollars.

This event is inspired by a story where art lovers examine the pair of eyeglasses left behind on a museum floor, thinking it’s modern art.

Good exercise for 💪:
- Creative or humorous minds

Challenging for 💪💪:
- People who struggle with making stuff up on the fly, or interpreting visual meanings

Watch recordings of our past meetings and event format.

How it works:

You will receive a random image (a hilarious internet meme or a random household item) as a speaking prompt and will have one minute to talk about it. You could describe it, how it makes you feel, interpret its meaning, or as a challenge to yourself, try to sell it for a million dollars.

This event intends to spark creativity, and to help you practice thinking on your feet and speaking off the cuff. This event is not for show-casing your knowledge about art. We purposely excluded famous artworks whose meanings are known, or abstract images that are difficult to relate.

After every 6 people, you will vote for the art pieces you’re willing to bid for based on the speech you heard.

Etiquette:
● Turn on your video and keep it on
● Do not interrupt the speakers

This event will be live-streamed. Still screenshots of the virtual meeting may also be taken, and your testimonials and profile photo may be posted to the community photo albums and social media.

This event is free. If you are feeling generous, we suggest a $5 tip per event on our GoFundMe page.

Logistics:

● Registration starts at 5 minutes prior (see link in Location)
● Admission starts at 8pm ET sharp
● Test your technology in advance. The hosts will be busy from 15 min before the event start till the end, so can hardly answer any messages.

🎭 “One Minute Speaking” BTS (Behind the Scene)

Link visible for attendees

Let loose your inner creativity through an improv based drama practice, where there's no wrong answer. Watch a 10-20 second clip, put yourself into the shoes of one of the characters, and react, reflect or reimagine the future!

How it works: You will be given a 10-20 second YouTube clip and 2 conflicting perspectives. Choose one and act out your best impression of what you think will score the most points with the audience for one minute.

There's always more than one side to a story, but often times we don't get to stand in the other person's shoes. For this event, we get to choose which side we want to take (and if someone else wants to volunteer for the opposing view, that's even better). The scenes range from outright absurdity to nail biting adrenaline to tension so thick you can hear a pin drop. Embrace the moment because all the world's a stage and we are merely players.

After every 6 people, you will vote for the most convincing actor/actress. People acting for the opposing view will not count towards the votes (but can impact the original view's score in the eyes of the audience). To limit the amount of volunteers for extra prompts (and to give everyone an opportunity), we will limit one opposing view per speaker per round.

Watch recordings of our past events to get a feel of the vibes.

Etiquette:

  • Turn on your video and keep it on
  • Face the camera and maintain eye contact
  • Do not interrupt the speakers
  • We love remarks between speeches
  • Unmute if in a quiet environment
