Insights from UNICEF African Drone Academy Alumna, Keren Asaba
Join us for an enlightening presentation by Keren Asaba, a distinguished alumna of the UNICEF African Drone and Data Academy. Karen will discuss the innovative and sustainable projects that are hallmarks of UNICEF commitment to children's welfare worldwide.

About UNICEF
UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, is dedicated to realizing children's rights for every child, regardless of race, religion, or origin, guided by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Working with partners in over 190 countries and territories, UNICEF provides everything from rapid emergency response to long-term programs, ensuring that children globally can grow up healthy, safe, and fully able to realize their potential.

Spotlight on Innovation: The UNICEF African Drone and Data Academy Since its inception in 2020 in Malawi, the Academy has graduated over 1,000 students, with women making up 60% of its alumni. Under the ethos "Drones for Life," graduates apply their expertise in drone engineering, piloting, and data analysis to humanitarian efforts. Their skills benefit up to 5 million people, including up to 3 million children, by facilitating essential deliveries (like medical supplies) and services (particularly in agriculture) to remote areas.

This program empowers particularly young women to develop and strengthen their technological skills, lead autonomous lives, and positively impact their communities through their competencies.

We invite you to learn more about these initiatives and how they are making a difference globally. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear first-hand from Karen Asaba about her experiences and contributions to this life-changing program.

The event will be hosted by Claudia Cordie (UNICEF AUSTRIA).
Melanie Windisch and Michaela Uschold-Leibnitz from our sponsor Generali will talk about Generali as an employer, while Franziska Eder will fokus on DEI.

We are looking forward to welcoming you!

A few words from Keren:
I am Keren Asaba, a certified Drone Pilot, GIS specialist, and Geoscientist. Currently, I am the chief pilot and drone operator at TOA Custodian Nigeria Limited. In the previous years, I have
extensively acquired knowledge and expertise in the use of drone and data technology in fields of Mapping and Survey, Facility Inspection, and Asset Management. I also use my expertise to support the international scaling up of UNICEF’s African Drone and Data Academy (ADDA), of which I was part of the first graduating cohort. Additionally, I
support Green Yoma, which is a Youth Market Agency that focuses on the social, environmental, and employment needs of young people. Both initiatives aim to assist young people in their transition from learning to earning. I believe in girls and women in STEM; hence I am an active member of Women in Geographical Information Systems (WiGIS) Uganda. I serve on the Innovations Taskforce and use my position
to empower fellow WiGIS members by sharing my expertise and knowledge in the field of data science
