Peak District Weekend - Mam Tor, Great Ridge & Kinder Scout
Details
Fancy escaping London for a weekend of spectacular views, challenging hiking and the beautiful Peak District?
Join me for a two-day hiking weekend based in Edale, with two very different routes and a relaxed evening at the hostel.
Friday - Arrive in Edale
The event starts in Edale early Friday evening.
Everyone is responsible for arranging their own travel. From London, I recommend checking trains from London St Pancras to Edale. Please allow enough time to arrive in Edale on Friday evening.
Once everyone has arrived, we’ll check into YHA Edale, settle in and prepare for the weekend.
Saturday - Mam Tor & The Great Ridge
Approximately 20 km | Challenging
Our main adventure of the weekend.
Starting from Edale, we’ll head towards Mam Tor and follow the spectacular Great Ridge via Hollins Cross, Back Tor and Lose Hill, before making our way back towards Edale.
Expect dramatic ridgelines, wide-open views, moorland, valleys and plenty of elevation. This is a full day on the trails, so good footwear and reasonable fitness are essential.
Sunday - Kinder Low & Jacob’s Ladder
Approximately 9–10 km | Moderate
A shorter but equally scenic hike before heading home.
We’ll explore the wild Kinder landscape, with rocky paths, streams, moorland and Jacob’s Ladder, returning to Edale in time for the journey back to London.

🚆 Travel from London
For the weekend, I recommend travelling by train and booking an Open Return so you have flexibility on the way back on Sunday.
Current options shown for Friday 23 October include:
- 14:02 London St Pancras → 16:46 Edale — 2h 44m, 1 change — currently showing £102.80 and marked as the cheapest option.
- 13:13 London Euston → 16:33 Edale — 2h 44m, 1 change — currently showing £112.
These prices are based on the current availability and may change, so please check before booking.
Travel is not included in the £65 organising/guiding fee. Everyone should book their own train ticket and make sure they arrive in Edale by early Friday evening for the start of the weekend.
Please bring or prepare your own packed lunch for both hiking days. You can prepare food at the hostel or bring supplies with you.
WhatsApp group
Once there is enough interest and the weekend is confirmed, I’ll set up a WhatsApp group for everyone attending. We can then coordinate travel, arrival times, food, room arrangements and any last-minute updates.
Health, Safety & Group Responsibility
I’m the group organiser and hike leader, responsible for planning the routes and coordinating the weekend. However, everyone is responsible for their own health, wellbeing, fitness level and personal safety.
Please make sure you’re comfortable with the distance and terrain, bring appropriate clothing, footwear, food and water, and let me know if you have any concerns during the hike.
We’re also a group, so please be respectful and considerate towards other participants, local residents, other walkers, wildlife and the environment. We’ll look out for each other and aim to make it an enjoyable weekend for everyone.
This is a proper weekend away rather than just a day hike - two great routes, a night in the Peak District and plenty of time to enjoy the scenery.
