The North Texas Writers

We are fiction writers who focus on helping other writers achieve goals by providing constructive criticism, creative writing tips and challenges, and motivating each other by accountability.

BRING: 1-10 pages (maximum of ten pages), double-spaced, one-inch margins; these are requirements or we may not be able to critique your work.

You are not required to bring anything; you may come, listen, and see how we operate.

We critique in a group style, so be sure to bring copies for everyone.

Note: We DO NOT critique poetry, memoir, or biographies. These require specific skillsets that we do not claim to have. We welcome novels and short fiction of most varieties. If you have questions, please reach out to the organizers.

Check-in, grab a coffee, and join us for some structured conversations to help us get to know eachother, our projects, and what we want to get from the weekend. (Join us when you can, we know people will be coming from work, etc.)
Writing Sprints
Stretch your fingers, bench your inner-editor, and keep your eyes on the doc! Compete with yourself and others for word count. This exercise is great to write yourself out of a plot whole, learn about your characters, or even tart something new.
Writing Time
Find a cozy space and disapear into your world.
One-on-Ones
Share your doc and get live, unfiltered feedback. We'll pause to fix errors, ask questions, enhance your craft line by line for 30 minutes.
Story Structure Workshop
Bring your laptop! We'll share a tool that guides you through plot points, character arcs, and pacing your novel. Apply it to a new idea or an existing draft to make sure your story has all the elements it needs, a solid plot line, and your word-count is on target.
Character Workshop
You'll need your laptop for this too! In this session you'll take inventory of your characters and discover what they need to walk off the page.
Mix & Mingle
Make friends with people who understand your passion and your struggles. Who knows, you may even meet a critique partner.
