Theology At the Bottleworks #256
Third Wednesday of the month as always

In this month’s discussion we tackle the topic “Leveling Up or Spiraling Down: The Cultural Trend of 'Maxxing'.” From “looksmaxxing” to “moneymaxxing,” internet influencers have popularized the idea of treating life like a video game where physical traits, wealth, and status must be ruthlessly optimized. Is this drive for self-improvement a positive reflection of discipline and personal responsibility, or a symptom of a hyper-competitive, zero-sum society? What does it tell us about current American cultural values when we quantify our worth based on jawlines, bank accounts, and social dominance? How does "maxxing" influence our mental health and our relationships? Does the pressure to “maxx” out our potential empower individuals, or does it fuel consumerism, and discontentedness? Where is the line between healthy self-care and toxic obsession with perfection, and who decides? If you’re into “conversation-maxxing”, come have a brew, give your view, and lend an ear to others’.
