Monthly film—April, Les Miserables

Our next theology in film night will be on Monday April 24, 6:00. We will be watching the 1998 adaptation of Les Miserables, based on the novel by Victor Hugo. Note this is NOT the 2012 musical with Hugh Jackman. Liam Neeson stars as convict Jean Valjean, a man determined to create a new life and new identity for himself after receiving a single act of mercy. Geoffrey Rush costars as the ruthless policeman Javert who is determined to return Valjean to prison at all costs.

Topics afterwards will include how we are saved by Grace, how we should respond to God’s law, whether the law or grace comes first in God’s economy, and how we are supposed to treat the outcasts and desperately poor that we find among us.
