Adana Workshop
Details
There are many Adana 8x5 presses around the country; if you're lucky you may own one. They are benchtop size, light, portable and classed as a hobby press, but can print very acceptable results when set up correctly. Indeed, many were used in home printing businesses. They don't take up too much room, and are easy presses to use. And they become available for sale more than most presses. They are excellent first presses to learn the principles of letterpress printing—the techniques can be applied to most presses.
The workshop will teach essential maintenance tasks and best practices to get the most out of an Adana. It will include checking the rollers for height and for good inking of the type, getting the packing correct, levelling the bed for even print, oiling, washing up, locking up for best print, and trouble shooting common issues. And of course we'll do some printing on them.
If you have an Adana you should bring it, but we have plenty to learn on. If you know someone with an Adana, suggest they may like to join us.
The workshop is run by Graham Judd, qualified letterpress machinist of Inkiana Press, with help from other trained letterpress printers. Graham is one of the top letterpress educators in the country and regularly teaches abroad: www.inkianapress.co.nz
