Step back into the world of early bookbinders with this hands‑on exploration of the Nag Hammadi style wrap at the Wellington Centre for Book Arts. Working from the Coptic‑influenced codices discovered at Nag Hammadi, Egypt, you’ll create a clean, contemporary interpretation of one of the oldest known book structures. The session covers sewing a single thick quire with traditional tackets, forming a limp cover strengthened with cartonnage‑style layers, and shaping the classic envelope flap with optional wraparound ties. A selection of structural variations will be available, allowing you to customise the binding to suit your own aesthetic while gaining insight into the ingenuity of early makers.
