Discover a contemporary reimagining of a classic structure in this exploration of Monique Lallier's New Oriental Binding. Building on the traditions of Japanese stab binding, this elegant and highly adaptable format opens beautifully and easily accommodates thick papers, inclusions, and challenging grain directions.

During the workshop, we'll create a functional model while exploring ways to develop the structure further at home. We'll discuss options for incorporating leather, cloth, decorative papers, contrasting spine materials, and more complex cover treatments. Tutor Terrie Reddish
Terrie Reddish is a letterpress printer and bookbinder who works with restored tools and vintage equipment to create fine press books, broadsheets, prints, and three-dimensional paper artworks inspired by historical and contemporary book structures. Her practice brings together traditional craft, thoughtful design, and a deep respect for the material history of the book.

Terrie has studied bookbinding overseas with Australian, American, French and English binders, and teaches bookbinding throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. She is the Editrix of the Association of Book Crafts (NZ) Incorporated and the Chair of the Association of Handcraft Printers, roles that reflect her commitment to supporting and strengthening the book arts community.

Above all, Terrie loves to share what she has learnt. Her workshops are designed to be welcoming, practical, and empowering—giving participants the skills, confidence, and curiosity to continue exploring bookbinding long after the class ends.
