Discover the Endless Possibilities of Carmencho Arregui's Crossed Structure Binding
Deceptively simple, wonderfully adaptable, and full of creative potential, the Crossed Structure Binding is a structure every bookbinder should know. Invented by Carmencho Arregui in 1992, this innovative binding transformed ideas about how books can be constructed, revealing the spine sewing and opening new pathways for both artistic and conservation work.

Working from Carmencho's diagrams and instructions, we'll explore her remarkable structure and look at examples created by binders around the world. Opening perfectly flat and capable of being adapted to soft or hard covers in materials from paper to leather, the structure offers an extraordinary range of decorative and structural possibilities. Join us to discover why this revolutionary binding continues to inspire book artists, conservators, and makers more than three decades after its invention.
