Therapy Dog Evaluations - Love On A Leash

Details

Meet evaluator and trainer, Kay Gramm CPDT-KA at Bass Pro Shop for a FREE evaluation of you and your dog as therapy dog teams for the national organization, Love On A Leash (www.loveonaleash.org)

Therapys dog teams, also known as animal-assisted therapy teams, are a soul-nourishing gift we share with various communities within El Dorado, Placer, and even Sacramento counties. We visit hospitals, elementary schools, colleges, fire stations, assisted-living centers, and more. We are looking for dogs and people who genuinely enjoy meeting new people and that are easy to get along with.

This Control Evaluation is the first step of therapy dog certification with Love On A Leash. Come for an official evaluation or take your dog through a practice run.

*Print membership packet: Membership Packet
You may complete it on the computer or fill it out afterward in blue ink. You may print page 15 to bring now and print the remaining later.

*Ensure you and your dog qualify to join by reading the packet thoroughly. I.e. Your dog must be 1 year or older.

*Bring the control evaluation on page 15 to this event and have your test completed here or find your own qualified trainer to complete the evaluation for you.

*Your evaluation will be shared with Love On A Leash leadership if you do the evaluation here. Otherwise, you will send to the national office.

The leadership of LOAL will assist you in the next step: Log 10 Supervised Visits with a qualified LOAL team.

*After 10 supervised visits, you are now qualified to make visits alone or with other teams.

*After 50 visits, you can submit your verified hours to the American KEnnel Club and they will certify your dog as an AKC Therapy Dog. Visit their website (www.AKC.org) for more info.

THINGS TO KNOW:
* Therapy dogs are NOT service dogs. They are not afforded the same public access rights as service dogs. Therapy dogs are to share with others. Service dogs help one person with disability-related tasks. Your dog must not misrepresent a service dog once it has a therapy dog ID and vest.
*If you or your dog struggle at the supervised visits for whatever reason, you may be asked to pause visits and complete some training on your own.
*A successful evaluation warrants no promises for therapy dog certification. This is simply the first level for us to determine appropriateness and safety.
* Contact Kay Gramm at text - 916.880.8165 or by leaving a comment here!

Please remember that rules apply:
- Don't let your dog greet other dogs unless okayed by other dog owner and is safe.
- Walk with space from other handlers
- Picking up dog waste is non-negotiable. You have to.
-No treats or toys during the evaluation.

Also, this isn't a class. I can give you pointers, but we have limited time.

Another thing, sometimes people's dogs can be imperfect. Yours too. We do not tolerate trash talking other attendees or their dogs. If you have an issue, come talk to me in private about it.

Questions? Text me - 916.880.8165 (Kay) or use the event chat feature. Please don't call unless its an emergency.

Want to donate toward my expenses? THANK YOU!! No pressure or obligation though: Click here to help out!

Waiver and Release of Liability: By participating in this walk, you release Kay's Dog Training and its officers, agents, volunteers, and representatives from liability for any injury that you or your dog may sustain, including injuries caused by negligence. Please bring potty bags and a good attitude! No retractable leashes. See you in the morning! We are going to have fun! : ) Kay Gramm
