With one foot in classic sci fi and one foot in contemporary society, The Salvage Crew is supposed to be a tip of the hat to the space opera genre while pushing boundaries. Wijeratne has been on my radar since being nominated for the 2018 Nebula Award for Best Novellette. People note that he finds a balance in his writing between a fairly casual tone while still pushing the narrative and being able to pack in hard sci-fi when necessary.
