Hi everybody,

Thanks for your patience while I got this month's announcement out. The good news is that, since we're meeting on the fourth Sunday this month, you still have about four weeks to finish the book.

Our August selection is the winner of the Contemporary Sci-Fi survey! Based on your votes, we'll be reading a mix of mysteries, alien encounters, planetary escapes, and interplanetary travel over the coming months. I'm excited to see what connections we can draw between these modern favorites and classic novels.

Blindsight has become something of a modern sci-fi classic. It's known for being smart, suspenseful, and genuinely unsettling. Without giving too much away, the story follows a crew sent to investigate a mysterious alien presence at the edge of our solar system. This should be a fun one!

Book of the Month
Blindsight - Peter Watts (2006)

Content warning: Blindsight has horror elements and can get dark. If that's not your thing, keep it in mind before jumping in. That said, you can always skip ahead : )

Reactor has a nice summary and review here. Heads up for spoilers in the article, but worth a read when you're done. It’s a story about an eclectic crew aboard an ion-eating ship, a strange signal, and a terrifying mystery.

You can buy it online, at your bookstore, listen via audiobook, or DOWNLOAD THE PDF HERE FOR FREE from the author's website. Not spam, I promise. Watts initially self-published this novel and had it free online.

To join a Book Club meeting, all you will need is YOURSELF. If you haven’t had a chance to finish the book, we still would love for you to join us in the discussion.

Not able to join us in person for events? The Sci Fi Book Club is on Discord. Join us and keep the conversation going.
