Hi All: Please join us as we traverse a number of trails. Bennet Heritage Trail, Irwin Quarry and Robert Side Rd. Considered a moderately challenging hike folks so come with good hiking shoes, and always come with rain gear cause no matter what, we hike in heat, rain, sleet or snow.
Located in Silver Creek Conservation Area near Halton Hills, this complex network traverses one of the most ecologically diverse sections of the Niagara Escarpment. Historically, this area was settled by the Bennett family and later protected to preserve the Credit River headwaters. Geologically, the Great Esker trail follows a rare glacial ridge of sand and gravel formed by a meltwater river under ancient ice. The forest is a lush mix of sugar maple and hemlock, home to white-tailed deer and spotted salamanders. The terrain is technical and rugged, featuring steep rocky inclines, limestone crevices, and muddy lowland sections.
Hikers recommend waterproof boots for the Silver Creek crossings and mention the esker provides unique elevated views. P
