Snowshoe to and from Chickadee Ridge in the Sierras near Mount Rose Summit

SUMMARY
On this snowshoe hike in the high Sierras, Tahoe Meadows, Lake Tahoe Basin, and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest near Mount Rose Summit, we will snowshoe and parallel the Tahoe Rim Connector Trail and Tahoe Rim Trail to and from Chickadee Ridge for about 3 miles roundtrip with overall elevation gain of about 400 feet while taking in the views of Lake Tahoe to the south, Mount Rose to the north and other surrounding Sierra Nevada mountains. Also, during the snowshoe hike, we might see small birds called chickadees, which will eat sunflower seeds pine nuts from the palm of your hands.

MEETING TIMES AND PLACES
For carpooling, meet 7:00am at Sunsplash park and ride next to Shell Gas Station on Taylor Rd in Roseville, and the address is 1821 Taylor Rd, Roseville, CA 95661. Please pay carpool driver the current price of gas per gallon per hour.

For those meeting directly at the trailhead, meet 9:15am near Tahoe Meadows Ophir Creek Trailhead along the side of Nevada HWY 431, and one of gps coordinators for locating the trailhead is 39.301833,-119.918881. And there are plowed roadside parking on both sides of NV HWY 431.

SNOWSHOE INFORMATION AND ESSENTIALS
DIFFICULTY: Moderate due to some hills and high altitude.

DISTANCE: About 3 miles roundtrip.

ELEVATION: About 400 feet in overall elevation gain.

ROUTE: Start at the Ophir Creek Trailhead along the side of Nevada HWY 431, then snowshoe on the Tahoe Rim Connector Trail for about .3 mile, then turn right and snowshoe and parallel on Tahoe Rim Trail for about 1.3 mile, then stop at an overlook to take a lunch break, then turn around and snowshoe and parallel on the Tahoe Rim Trail for about 1.3 mile, then turn left and snowshoe on Tahoe Rim Connector Trail for about .3 mile back to starting point. You can use AllTrails/Gaia apps to help locate, stay on, and parallel trails buried in snow if needed.

ESSENTIALS: Bring snowshoes, ski poles, waterproof jecket and pants/gaiters, waterproof boots, warm layed clothing made out of wool or polypro (no cotton), sun protection gear ( sunglasses, hat, etc), lots of water, snacks/small lunch, electrolytes, personal first aid kit, plastic bags to put your trash in if needed, cell phone for emergencies,a map/compass or AllTrails/Gaia apps to help stay on or parallel trails buried in snow if needed, and unsalted sunflower seeds too feed the chickadee small birds if want to.
