Sly park hike to and from Waterfall and Hazel Day Use Area along Jenkinson Lake

SUMMARY
On this out and back hike along the shores of Jenkinson Lake in Sly Park Recreation Area and lower Sierras, we will hike to and from the waterfall and Hazel Day Use Area along the east shores of Jenkinson Lake for about 7 miles roundtrip between Bumpy Meadow Day Use Area, the Waterfall, and Hazel Day Use Area.

MEETING PLACES AND TIMES
For carpool, meet 7:30am at Iron Point Park and Ride next to light rail station, and the address is 150 Iron Point Rd, Folsom, CA 95630. Please help pitch in on parking at the trailhead and pay carpool driver the current price of gas per gallon. $5 parking fee at trailhead.

For those meeting directly at trailhead, meet 8:30pm at the Waterfall Trailhead next to Bumpy Meadow Day Use Area off of Mormon Emigrant Trail (a road), and the address is

PC7R+FC, Pollock Pines, CA 95684" $5 parking fee inside Sly Park Recreation Area.

HIKING INFORMATION AND ESSENTIALS
DIFFICULTY: Moderate due to the distance.

DISTANCE: About 7 miles roundtrip.

ELEVATION: Mostly flat with small hills, about 400 feet cumulative elevation gain.

ROUTE: Start at Waterfall Trail next to Bumpy Meadow Day Use Area, then hike for about 2.5 miles on the Jenkinson Lake Loop Trail along the east shores of Jenkinson Lake, then turn right and hike to the waterfall for a short distance of about 700 feet on the spur trail. After spending some time at the waterfall, hike about 700 feet back to the trail junction, then turn right and hike for about .8 mile on the Jenkinson Lake Loop Trail to Hazel Day Use Area. After spending some time at the day use area, we will hike for about 3.3 miles on the Jenkinson Lake Loop Trail back to Bumpy Meadow Day Use area.

ESSENTIALS: Bring water, hiking shoes/boots, hiking poles if needed, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, etc), insect repellent spray, small lunch/snacks, first aid kit, etc.
