Hike to Emigrant Lake in the Eastern Sierras

SUMMARY
On this hike in the high Sierras, we will hike on the Emigrant Lake Trail through Alpine meadows and Pine forest between Caples Lake Dam and Emigrant Lake in the Mokelumne Wilderness and El Dorado National Forest.

PARK HIGHLIGHTS: alpine lakes, alpine meadows, and pine/fir forest.

HIKING INFORMATION AND ESSENTIALS

HIKING LEVEL: Intermediate or moderate due to high altitude and some hills.

DISTANCE: About 8 miles.

ELEVATION: About 900 feet gain.

HIKING ROUTE:
Start at Emigrant Lake Trailhead next to Caples Lake's dam and CA 88 Carson Pass HWY, then hike on Emigrant Lake Trail number 17E18 for about 4 miles to Emigrant Lake. Spend some time at Emigrant Lake, then hike back to the starting point for about 4 miles.

HIKING ESSENTIALS:
Bring hiking shoes/boots, lots of water at least 2 litters, small lunch, snacks, sun protection gear (sunglasses, hat), insect repellent/bug spray, and first aid kit, rain gear in case of sudden thundershowers.

MEETING TIMES AND PLACES
For carpooling, meet 7:30am at Iron Point's park & ride below McDonald's and next to ligth rail station in Folsom. Address is 150 Iron Point Rd, Folsom, CA 95630.
Suggested carpool gas money, the current price of gas per gallon, so about $5 per hour of driving time, and free parking at the park & ride.
For those meeting directly at the trailhead, meet 9:30am at Emigrant Lake Trailhead next to Caples Lake's parking lot and dam.
