SUMMARY
On this hike in the high Sierras, El Dorado National Forest, and Desolation Wilderness we will hike to Lyons Lake overall distance of about 10 miles and elevation gain of about 1,800 feet.

HIKING INFORMATION AND ESSENTIALS
HIKING LEVEL: Hard due to high altitude, distance, and some hills.

DISTANCE: About 10 miles.

ELEVATION GAIN: About 1,800 feet overall in elevation gain.

HIKING ROUTE: We start at Lyons Creek Trailhead, then hike gradually uphill northeast on Lyons Creek Trail for about 5 miles, At each trail junction or fork, follow the signs that point the way to Lyons Lake or Lyons Creek Trail. At Lyons lake, we will have lunch, be under shade of pine and fir trees, and cool off by dipping or swimming.

DOGS ALLOWED: No

HIKING ESSENTIALS: Bring water, lunch, sun protection, and hiking shoes/boots, hiking poles for hills if needed and money for carpool drivers.

MEETING PLACES AND TIMES
For carpooling, meet 8:00AM at Iron Point Light Rail Station's park & ride below McDonald's restaurant in Folsom. Address is 150 Iron Point Rd, Folsom, CA 95630.
Suggested carpool gas money is $5 per person per hour driving, Total round trip driving time is 2.5 hours, so $13 is about right.

For those meeting directly at the trailhead, meet 9:30 AM at Lyons Creek Trailhead on Wrights Lake Road.

Directions to Lyons Creek Trailhead from Iron Point

  1. Head east on HWY 50.
  2. Turn left onto Wrights Lake Road and continue 4.1 miles and destination will be to the right.
