Thunder Mountain

Details
Let's hike Thunder Mountain (one of my favorites!) off of Highway 88. We'll plan on 30-45 minutes at the summit for lunch and soaking up the views. After, we'll simply retrace our steps to the trailhead. This will be a moderately (ish) paced (with occasional stops) hike.
Rain or thundershowers in the forecast will cancel. I will update in the comment section about weather as we get closer to Sept. 6th.
IMPORTANT NOTES....please read all:
--Meet at the Iron Point Park and Ride parking lot at the Folsom Iron Point Station just below the Folsom Premium Outlets.
--Please be at the Park and Ride by 7:10 a.m. (ish)
--Departing 7:30 a.m. from Park and Ride. Post to comment section if something comes up, I will keep an eye on them.
--Not a beginner hike. There is 1700 ft of vertical and 8 miles of hiking, with uneven trail at times.
--RSVPs limited due to wilderness rules. Please don't be a no-show and potentially prevent another from attending. Not good hiking karma!
--By agreeing to sign up, you are expected to hike with the group, or very close to the group, and wait for others at all trail junctions, we keep an eye out for each other. A great day of hiking is where everyone gets home safely.
SUGGESTED ITEMS TO BRING:
Cotton not recommended, 2-3 liters water (there is no water source on this hike), power bars, light rain shell or fleece in case of rain, sturdy shoes or hiking boots (no flip-flops), hat/sunhat, sunscreen, lip-balm, lunch, whistle, hiking poles, and mosquito repellent and a positive attitude.
NOTE FOR CARPOOL PASSENGERS:
(blatantly copied word for word from Andrew Weston) If you plan on being a passenger in a car, two things. Bring separate shoes to wear in the car, and a bag to put your hiking boot/shoes in. And bring cash for your driver. Not everyone uses electronic payments.
Pay your driver the cost of a gallon of gas times the amount of time on the road. To make life easier assume $5.00/gal and 3 hours travel time total so $15.00 for your driver.
DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEAD:
--go south on Folsom Blvd until you reach HWY 50
--go east on HWY 50 about 37 miles.
--take Exit 60 for Sly Park Rd. (in Pollack Pines)
--Turn right onto Sly Park Rd
--go 4.6 mi (you will see Jenkinson Lake off to your left)
--Turn left onto Mormon Emigrant Trail. Continue to follow Mormon Emigrant Trail 24.6 mi
--Turn left onto CA-88
--go 10.1 mi to Thunder Mountain Trailhead and turn right into the dirt trailhead parking lot. If you see the Carson Spur sign on your left you've gone to far. Turn around and try again.

SUGGESTION (for when you are out of cell service):
Always a good idea at the very least to utilize Google maps offline maps for the area you will be hiking in (you can look this up on the net to figure out how to do it). As long as you keep your location services on it works, you don't need cell to make this happen. Make sure your phone is charged to 100% before starting on the hike. Another consideration is adding satellite to your phone plan. My cell phone plan has this, not sure about other plans, you would have to check. If you have it you can at least send a text if need be. I have this on my phone and it works fine.
