Day Hike to Crows Nest Peak & Mt Disney (Moderate)
Details
The snow is melting fast so this can be our last snow hike until the next year. Let go to Crows Nest Peak, followed by a short traverse to Mount Disney on a flat ridge. Both peaks reside in the Sugar hBowl Be rest assured, views from the summits are gorgeous!
Total round trip distance is approximately 5.3 miles with 990 feet of elevation gain/loss. This is an out-and-back hike that starts at the Royal Gorge and approaches Crows Nest via Aster, Claims Jumper, and Razorback Trails (likely snow covered; we will rely on GPS).
REQUIREMENTS:
Bring snowcap, cap, winter gloves, snowshoes or spikes or crampons; plenty of water (3 liters), HIKING POLES (necessary), suncreen, snacks, and lunch. Winter thermal Hiking Boots and warm layers are essential; Headlamps likely will not be needed.
OTHER DETAILS:
Snow showers and / or strong winds, or the requirement for vehicles to use chains may necessitate cancelling or postponing the event. I will post anticipated weather 48 hours before the event. You may make travel arrangements with other hikers on your own, if at all. You are responsible for reading/responding to updates posted on Meetup. Lastly, the pace of the hike will be moderate.
