This early morning Shared Walk is timed around a rare and beautiful alignment of light. On Sunday, February 1st, sunrise at 7:04am coincides almost exactly with the moonset of an almost-full moon at 7:06am. In one direction, the sun rises; turning around, the moon sets. With clear skies, both can be observed and photographed within moments of each other.

We’ll meet at 6:30am in the first parking lot on the right as you enter Greenwich Point Park. We’ll begin by finding a slightly elevated spot near the beach and spend the first part of the meetup mostly stationary, focusing on the sunrise and moonset as the light changes.

This initial portion is very approachable with modern smartphones, which handle low light and dynamic range especially well. For those using cameras, a tripod may be helpful for this first segment only. We’ll be close to our cars, so extra gear can be left there before we transition into the walking portion of the meetup.

Please dress very warm. It will be cold, and because the first 30 minutes are largely stationary and the walk itself is slow and deliberate, it will feel colder than usual. I’ll personally be dressed in snow pants, as if heading to a sledding hill. Layers, gloves, hats, and warm footwear are strongly recommended.

There is a heated bathroom near the beach, which we can use if needed before or during the walk.

After the sunrise and moonset, we’ll continue with a gentle, observational walk focused on light, atmosphere, and the quiet energy of the park in the early morning.

As always, this is not a workshop or critique group. All cameras are welcome. Sharing images is optional. The focus is on practice, attention, and experiencing something unusual together.
