Photo Walk at Storm King Art Center

Join us for a leisurely summer photography walk through the remarkable landscapes of Storm King Art Center, one of the world's largest sculpture parks.

Spanning hundreds of acres of rolling meadows, woodlands, and monumental contemporary sculptures, Storm King offers endless opportunities to explore the relationship between art, landscape, light, and scale.

Storm King is a bit farther afield than our usual Shared Walk locations—approximately a 2-hour drive each way from Stamford, CT. We don't visit often, which makes this a wonderful opportunity to spend a day exploring one of the region's most unique outdoor art destinations.

We'll meet at 10:00 AM at the Welcome Center and spend approximately 3 hours exploring the grounds together at a relaxed pace. We'll stop often to observe, photograph, and simply enjoy the surroundings.

Late morning light is steady and balanced, making it an excellent time to focus on composition, form, texture, and the dialogue between sculpture and nature.

This is not a workshop or critique group. There is no competition and no pressure to perform. Whether you photograph with a professional camera or a phone, everyone is welcome.

Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. Bring water and a few light snacks, as we'll be on the grounds for several hours. Sunscreen and a hat are also recommended on warm summer days.

After our walk, those who would like to continue the conversation are welcome to join for an informal group lunch at a nearby restaurant.

On the drive back, we may also make a brief optional stop at Fort Montgomery Historic Site to explore the historic grounds and photograph the nearby Bear Mountain Bridge, offering a different landscape and a chance to end the day with sweeping views of the Hudson Highlands.
