  • 20:00 Scaling with Swarm: How Loopcv Handled Hypergrowth with Docker
  • 20:30 Beer 🍺 and Pizza 🍕

On Thursday, the 9th of October, we are coming together at the offices of Rational Data to kick off the Thessaloniki DevOps Meetup.

Background 🏗️

Our goal is to create the first DevOps community in the city to learn, interact, and naturally network in this space. The topics we will cover are broad, as broad as the term itself: Cloud Computing, ML Infrastructure, Site Reliability Engineering, and anything else you would like to bring to the table. Consequently, the first event is a great opportunity to help shape what is coming up next.

Our first speakers are Amalia Georgoudi and Lucas Simopoulos, thanks to whom this event could come to life.

Talks 🎙️

First, Amalia will talk to us about Optimizing Data Platforms at Scale. The session will highlight best practices in platform optimization focusing on platform architecture and infrastructure, compute optimization, and code engineering optimization, with a focus on how FinOps principles and observability can drive efficiency. Real-world case studies will demonstrate how targeted improvements in governance, cluster configuration, and engineering practices have led to significant cost reductions and performance gains, as well as how data platforms are set up and operated across different cloud tenants. The discussion will also address the importance of continuously evaluating what cloud resources we use versus what we pay for, ensuring cost transparency and accountability.

Next is Lucas with Scaling with Docker Swarm or How Loopcv Handled Hypergrowth. Lucas will share the journey of scaling Loopcv from 20,000 to over 1.5 million users using Docker Swarm. He’ll dive into the challenges faced along the way—from cloud provider decisions to business trade-offs—offering insights into managing rapid user growth with a small team.

A short intro will take place ahead of the talks, describing the motivation and goals behind all of this.

Last but not least, we will have the chance to hang out and meet each other in the yard of Rational Data with beer 🍺 and pizza 🍕!

Please register and be mindful of your RSVP: spots are limited!

See you there!
