The Pact Alternative: Reliable Testing Beyond E2E: by Dimitris Dranidis

Contract testing is a technique that ensures two interacting services function correctly by testing them in isolation, using a mock to simulate their communication. The exchanged messages form an agreement between the two parties, known as a contract. In Consumer-driven contract testing, the consumer specifies its expectations from the provider, forming a contract that the provider must fulfill. Since multiple consumers may rely on the same provider, this approach helps ensure compatibility across services.

This method aligns well with TDD/BDD principles, fostering incremental development and making it a natural fit for new product initiatives. This presentation will cover the fundamentals of Pact, best practices for writing Pact tests, and key lessons learned from applying Pact across multiple projects.
