Mount Kenya Trek – Chogoria up, Sirimon down
Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second highest in Africa. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the center of the country, about 4 hours from Nairobi. The route combines the scenic Chogoria ascent with the Sirimon descent.
Day 1: Arrival to Nairobi
Brienfing and transfer to the hotel
Day 2: Nairobi – Chogoria – Park Gate (2,960 m)
Early drive from Nairobi to Chogoria. From there, a 22 km 4x4 drive through the forest. 10 km hike through jungle and local wildlife to the camp at the park entrance.
Day 3: Chogoria Gate – Chogoria Road Head (3,300 m)
Easy trek through heather forest. Visit Lake Ellis and Nithi Falls. Camp with panoramic views.
Day 4: Road Head – Mintos Hut (4,200 m)
Ascent through moorlands and Gorges Valley. Afternoon viewpoint over Lake Michaelson.
Day 5: Mintos – Summit Point Lenana (4,985 m) – Old Moses (3,300 m)
Summit push at 3:00 am to reach the top by sunrise. Descent via Shipton’s Camp and Mackinder Valley to Old Moses Camp.
Day 6: Old Moses – Sirimon Gate (2,560 m) – Nairobi
Final 9 km hike through forest. Drive back to Nairobi.
Day 7: Safari (optional)
Day 8: Return home
