What can we find at the beach? Learn about the five zones of nearshore and shoreline habitat, the importance of estuaries, and the animals that live here. Next we’ll learn about beach etiquette and take a guided nature walk on Luhr Beach. Using binoculars and guidebooks, we’ll find and document the wildlife we observe.
Located in northeast Olympia at Luhr Beach, on the western shore of the Nisqually estuary. Through a cooperative agreement with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, which operates the adjacent public boat launch, NRNC occupies a building on the site of a historic fishing and hunting camp established by Bill Luhr, Sr.
