Let's get together to read this classic epic before the movie by Christopher Nolan is released. Originally attributed to Homer in the 8th century BC, this poem has been translated many times over the years.

I will personally be reading the version by Emily Wilson. She strove to replicate the simplicity and brevity of the original and removed added sexist language from male translators, highlighting the original's complex portrayal of women, slavery, and social hierarchies. However, please feel free to read the version that you prefer or have access to.

Description:
The epic tale of Odysseus and his ten-year journey home after the Trojan War forms one of the earliest and greatest works of Western literature. Confronted by natural and supernatural threats - shipwrecks, battles, monsters, and the implacable enmity of the sea-god Poseidon - Odysseus must test his bravery and native cunning to the full if he is to reach his homeland safely and overcome the obstacles that, even there, await him.

The Odyssey is a poem about violence and the aftermath of war; about wealth, poverty, and power; about marriage and family; about travelers, hospitality, and the yearning for home.
