Near Death Experiences: Truth vs Fiction (online discussion)

Details

There are many thousands of near-death experiences reported and studied. We are limited to what we can study about one's subjective experience, but there are so many instances of it happening that it is reasonable enough to conclude *something* real is happening in these events. Are what these people are experiencing true? Or is there a natural explanation behind the phenomena?

Are they ALL true? Are they ALL not true? Can some people's experiences be true, while others are mistaken in what they experienced, and some could just be making the whole thing up to sell books?

Are there any correlations or overwhelming trends in these experiences when observed on a macro scale? Do they almost all experience the same thing? Is Heaven the same for everyone? Is Hell the same place for everyone? Do some meet Jesus some meet Muhammad and some meet Krishna?

There are stories where those having their near death experiences can recall conversations or details that would seem otherwise impossible for the person to know. Is there a natural explanation for these occurences?

Do people come out of these experiences changing their beliefs, and if so do people tend to change in the same direction?

How is it even possible that a person who is not actually dead can visit the after life?

I have personally been on the fence on this subject but lean towards at least some of these experiences being true. However I have no reasonable criteria for which experiences I think are genuine, other than just trusting my gut.

What are your thoughts? All views and backgrounds welcome! Come join us for a fun discussion. We'll lead with this topic but can venture off into any direction.

Rule of etiquette: The goal is to have a productive free-flowing discussion, while also giving everyone a fair chance to participate accordingly. If you have any trouble getting a word in, please use the "Raise Hand" feature. When a hand is raised I will set a 3:00 timer for turns. When no hands are up we continue with a free flow dialog with no timer. No one is obligated to speak if they do not want. Respect for others is a must (or at least please try haha). We're all human.

Hope you can join us!
