Is Equality Good? Opportunity vs Outcome? (online discussion)

Equality of Opportunity vs Outcome; which is better? Are either good? What's the difference?

Is Equality in itself a good thing? Is ultimate equality even feasible? If not, the why do we even strive for it? The concept of equality or fairness seems to be a cornerstone of a moral, civilized society. Frankly I don't know why.

The typical Left vs Right debate is whether Equality of Outcome is better or worse than Equality of Opportunity. However both are striving for equality, and I believe both positions are incorrect. Not only do I believe they are incorrect, but there is truly very little difference between these two positions that are pretending to be at odds with each other.
