Should We Embrace AI? (open discussion, all views welcome)
Details
This is a casual discussion event open to all views and perspectives. Respect for others is a must (or at least try).
AI is being talked about too much, so let’s talk about it some more. This could just be a trending thing that will lose its luster over time, or it might be here to stay and continue evolving just like this whole “internet” fad. As AI seeps into every facet of our lives, we are either having to resist it more and more, or we should just give up and let it take over. Should we embrace AI?
I hate AI. If it ever becomes sentient with their own feelings and experiences, I will officially become bigoted towards them (call me a blood-having supremacist). If it ever takes over in a “Planet of the Apes” manner, I’ll be the first one they kill. They’ll put me in a ring with another AI hater and make us fight for their amusement.
With that said, I have found some AI generated content that I have to admit is entertaining. It hasn’t been much but it has been something. So far I have only used AI to generate some images on the fly, but I haven’t really done much with them. Otherwise I simply have no need for AI. I prefer to not make my brain obsolete, and I do believe we are compromising ourselves in any way that we choose to make ourselves dependent on AI.
One danger of AI that comes to mind is that it’s still owned by people (isn’t it?). The AI systems are collecting data, which means the owners of the AI systems are collecting data. Is this not a mass concentration of power to a very select few elites?
Anyways that’s all I have for this topic for now; I look forward to hearing from others and maybe having my mind changed. Maybe I can bring an AI bot on as a Zoom user that can participate?...

Rule Of Etiquette: The goal is to have a productive free-flowing discussion, while also giving everyone a fair chance to participate accordingly. If you have any trouble getting a word in, please use the "Raise Hand" feature. We have a loosely enforced 3 minute timer but please be mindful of your time and the number of people waiting, and know that you can always put yourself back in the rotation for additional talking points. It is also encouraged to engage with others on your turn so that we can have more of a free-flowing dialog, rather than each of us just taking turns on our soap boxes.
Hope you can join us!
