Why AI Will Never Take Over

Details

Do you think AI is as much of a threat as people are making it out to be? Or is it mostly over-hyped? Come join us for a discussion on one of the most overly discussed topics of the year :P

If AI is going to take over, what are the first/largest areas do you see this happening? Automation impacting our workforce? AI girlfriends replacing real relationships? Students no longer being educated since AI can do all their thinking for them? Will AI decide the fate of future wars & conflicts with other countries?

For me personally, I believe it is over-hyped and will not ultimately take over. It is a trendy term that gets people's attention and is therefore used in Marketing to label a product as having "AI tech" when really it does not. Case in point: Meetup has a "Generate description with AI feature". Here's what it generated for me:

Join us at our next Think and Drink event for an evening filled with engaging conversations on self-exploration and philosophy. Dive into discussions on beliefs, spirituality, and critical thinking with like-minded individuals who share your intellectual curiosity. Whether you want to debate on atheism and agnosticism, or explore themes of self-help and self-improvement, this event is the perfect platform for deep, intellectual discussions. Let's gather for a night of stimulating debates, social connections, and life discussions in a cozy setting that encourages open-mindedness and friendship. Don't miss out on this opportunity to expand your intellectual horizons and connect with a community of intellectually curious individuals who love to think and drink together!

Could this description have replaced the actual description? Just a bunch of fluff to me. Pulling keywords from the main group description and forming into grammatical sentences is far from "Artificial Intelligence". In my opinion AI is the modern sci-fi hype reminiscent of alien invasions in the 1950's.

There are additional thoughts on this I will share in our discussion but would love to hear from you. All views and backgrounds welcome! Come join us for a fun discussion. We'll lead with this topic but can venture off into any direction.

Rule of etiquette: The goal is to have a productive free-flowing discussion, while also giving everyone a fair chance to participate accordingly. If you have any trouble getting a word in, please use the "Raise Hand" feature. When a hand is raised I will set a 3:00 timer for turns. When no hands are up we continue with a free flow dialog with no timer. No one is obligated to speak if they do not want. Respect for others is a must (or at least please try haha). We're all human (I think).

Hope you can join us!
