What we're about

Want to learn to code but don’t know where to start? This meetup was created to help people in Dallas learn to code and gain new skills in web development and data science. Join us weekdays at 6:30pm for free workshops, info sessions, tech talks, and happy hours focused on building new skills and growing your career. Our events are well-suited for both beginners learning to code as well as intermediate developers or data scientists looking to level-up. We're proud to be sponsored by Thinkful Dallas ( http://thinkful.com/bootcamp/dallas?aff=meetup ), the #1 rated coding bootcamp on CourseReport, who contributes a team of experienced mentors and career coaches to help out at events.

Workshops: hands-on, group classes teach everything from full-stack web development to intro concepts in data science. The workshops are taught by Thinkful mentors, each of whom have years of experience teaching people to code.

Tech Talks: led by experts in their field, these are meant to dive deeper into a specific topic. For example, you'll learn about how to build a great portfolio, how to break into the Dallas tech scene, and how market yourself.

Happy Hours: is there better way to talk about all things Dallas tech than over drinks and snacks? Come join us at one of our Dallas locations to network, learn, and most importantly have fun.

Info sessions: If you’re interested in learning more about Thinkful’s specific courses, these are the events for you! You’ll learn more about the mentorship program, career services, curriculum, and how job placement works.

JavaScript: To ES6 and Beyond

Capital Factory + The DEC

*** Please RSVP on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/javascript-to-es6-and-beyond-tickets-53107919216?aff=Meetup *** What the heck are all these arrows (=>) and dollar signs (`Hello ${name}`) doing in this new JS code I’m seeing? What’s with these objects with no value pairs? JavaScript is constantly improving, and with it comes syntax changes and new operations we may not have seen before. With ES6, we’re able to do more while writing less code and making it cleaner and more concise. Join us as we explore this exciting new syntax, including let/const, template strings, and arrow functions, and work through hands-on challenges together. This is an intermediate level workshop, so familiarity with JavaScript basics is needed. And be sure to bring your laptop!
