Suggested viewing before we meet (12 min video): How to Have Better Contentious Conversations
- What are the benefits and costs in engaging or avoiding contentious political, moral, or ethical discussions?
- Do you feel that controversial discourse is like a zombie movie, or what would be a better metaphor?
- What moral values matter most to you in how you see the world (e.g. fairness, security, loyalty, authority, purity, …)?
- How might contentious conversations change if you tried to appeal to their values, rather than using your own?
Let's think about it!

About TWD Online events:
- Zoom event starts at 3pm pacific
- From 3p-3:30p, members join the main Zoom room to mingle, watch the video again, grab a beverage and settle in
- At 3:30pm, the hosts create Zoom breakout rooms where groups of 6-10 members join to have a more in-depth conversation about the topic
- Between 5 and 5:30, the hosts decide to end their facilitation and leave their breakout room to return to the main room. At 5:30 PM, all of the breakout rooms are closed and members will be returned to the main room for the ‘post discussion party'.
