Hyde Park and Kenwood Historic Architecture Walk

Join us on an exploration of the architecture of early residential buildings in historic Hyde Park and Kenwood.

Our route:
We will walk through Hyde Park and Kenwood where we will see the work of famous architects (Frank Lloyd Wright, George Maher, Holabird and Roche, Howard Van Doren Shaw and others) in the residences they built for their clients (leaders of industry). Our route will take us south on Greenwood (past mansions including Obama’s former home), south on Blackstone (past more modest houses built earlier), then south on Woodlawn and into the University of Chicago quadrangle where we will admire the gothic architecture that Henry Cobb designed for the university to give it old world atmosphere. This walk will give you a feel for the 'leafy haven and respite from the city' that Paul Cornell, founder of Hyde Park, intended when he first established the town in 1853.

Lunch:
We will stop for lunch at a nearby restaurant / cafe. After lunch you can catch the Metra Electric Line back to Chicago at 59th Street Station.
