Remote & Accessible Research
Details
Join This is HCD Ireland, and our inspiring guest speakers, Dorota Gazy and Emma Sutcliffe, to explore the challenges and opportunities we face in user and design research.
We’ll be discussing the principles, processes and tools that can be used to make our research approaches accessible, regardless of whether we’re working in person or remotely.
These approaches are vital now more than ever before because the best practices of inclusivity and accessibility benefit everyone in society, not just those who are so often excluded or marginalised by traditional practices. We need to make sure no voices are left unheard. And if we are to design inclusive, accessible, human centred products, services and experiences, then the research that informs them also needs to be inclusive, accessible and human centred.
Both of our guest speakers are responsible for incredible work in the field of remote and accessible research. We’re honoured to have them join us at this session to share their experience and expertise with the This is HCD Ireland and global community.
SPEAKERS:
Dorota Gazy - STBY
Dorota Gazy is a master research facilitator and has the ability to always make everyone feel comfortable and excited to be involved. Bringing people together through dialogue is what she loves most about being a Design Researcher. Regardless of the complexity of the topic, she knows how to create the right circumstances for interaction and inclusive decision making.
With a background in Art History and Design, Dorota brings a potent mix of creativity and academic rigour to every project. She is not afraid to experiment with unconventional research methods and masters the art of improvising. This proves especially useful in public sector projects and research into sensitive topics, which she is most passionate about.
Dorota will be sharing the principles, processes and tools she and her colleagues use in successful remote research, with particular focus on Miro as a collaborative research tool.
Emma Sutcliffe - Difrent
Emma Sutcliffe is an insightful and curious User Researcher, a Fellow of the RSA and a recipient of an RSA Student Design Award. As an advocate for human-centred design, she actively promotes the value and impact of user research whilst striving to work for organisations that drive positive change.
Emma is a creative problem solver and uses her transferable skills from a background in Industrial and Social Design to lead user research activities across public and private sector clients. In her work she independently plans, designs, facilitates, analyses and shares her research and findings.
Emma takes a holistic approach in her delivery to ensure solutions meet user and business needs. As a user researcher, her role is to make sure no voices are left unheard in the design of services. She has a special interest and expertise in ensuring research methods are inclusive and accessible to all.
Emma will be sharing her experiences in accessible research practices; how to create inclusive and accessible services with an accessible research approach, and in particular, how to ensure your research approach is accessible to autistic people.
MORE DETAILS:
This is an online event and affords us the opportunity to not be restricted by geography so please feel free to join from anywhere in the world.
We hope to keep this event as engaging and active as previous sessions with 5-7 minute breakout rooms between speakers. These are an ideal opportunity for you to network with your community and share your own thoughts on the topic. Though optional, we encourage everyone to join the breakout rooms. Chatting with your fellow researchers and designers is hugely beneficial and encouraging, especially considering how isolated many of us have been over this past year.
The Zoom link will be avilable prior to the event, as long as you’ve registered. We look forward to welcoming you on Tuesday 4th May at 6:30pm (Irish time).
