About us
Thought Experiments in Pubs - Hertfordshire
A friendly discussion group for curious souls looking for connection and the occasional laugh. Everyone is welcome. It's a wonderful way to meet new people. After all, it's easier to get to know someone when you're talking about something meaningful. We meet in pubs in Hertfordshire (scroll for a list of upcoming events).
What to expect?
Each event has a different theme to keep things fresh. And there are three 'thought experiments' or scenarios to discuss at each event, looking at the theme from different perspectives. Each of the three scenarios has its own carefully curated set of questions to guide your discussion. Our discussions are in small groups of 3-4 and we switch groups regularly throughout the evening so you'll get to talk to quite a few different people at each event.
Upcoming!
Mon Nov 2nd - The White Horse - Welwyn Village - "FAME & FORTUNE"
Wed Nov 11th - The Old Manor - Potters Bar - "TRUTH & LIES"
We're taking a much needed break in December and will come back fully refreshed in January 2027 with two FREE events:
FREE EVENT - Mon Jan 11th - The White Horse - Welwyn Village - "SUGAR & SPICE"
FREE EVENT - Wed Jan 20th - The Builders Arms - Potters Bar - "ROCKSTARS & REBELS"
I think the FREE January events may get snapped up pretty quickly so do book early.
'Thought Experiments in Pubs - Hertfordshire' is hosted by Sharda. Sharda was born in the Caribbean and lives in Potters Bar. She researches every theme and draws inspiration for her thought experiments from books, films, friends, life experience and Radio 4. She has three sons and three degrees in economics. She likes to think that she brings a bit of Caribbean warmth and joy to her events, but she could be wrong!
Origins
We are part of the Thought Experiments in Public (TEiP) network founded by Bonny Astor which is why we have a similar format and branding to those events. You can check out our entry on Bonny's website (click and scroll down). Sharda started going to TEiP London meetups in 2025 and loved them so much she has been working with Bonny to bring TEiP to Hertfordshire!
We have our own website here with some more info and other fun stuff.

Meet & Discuss | Welwyn Village | "FAME & FORTUNE" | TEiP Herts
Join us for Thought Experiments in Pubs, a chance to meet new people and discuss interesting questions in a wonderful space. No experience necessary.
What to expect?
We discuss three thought experiments (or scenarios) at every event all focused on a central theme. Each discussion is guided by a list of interesting questions. For our November event at The White Horse in Welwyn village, we shall be exploring "FAME & FORTUNE".
Each event is a good mix of first timers and regulars. Many people don't know anyone when they arrive, and the rotating small-group format makes it easy to meet lots of people during the evening.
At the end of the session we’ll have a short get together as a whole group to share thoughts and ‘vote’ on a few questions, so that you can get a sense of everyone’s views.
After that feel free to stay and chat with your fellow thinkers!
Who should come?
Everyone. No experience required. Each session is standalone. The more perspectives, the richer the conversation. The vibe is calm and inquisitive so leave your boxing gloves at home! Watch this Insta reel to get an idea of what to expect. Don't worry, we won't be quoting famous philosophers at you, we're just interested in what you think based on your life experiences.
If you have friends who are not on Meetup but who might enjoy this event, feel free to get an extra ticket (or 2) for them when you sign up.
