About us
A laid-back group focussed on good conversation with minimal structure. We take thought experiments as conversational jumping off points and see how ideas flow from there.
We meet in nice pubs/cafes/bars/galleries in central London. Everyone welcome! The more perspectives, the richer the conversation.
I post regular reflections and newsletters on substack.
You can see what we look like and get regular updates on instagram.

SOLD OUT • TEiP DEEP: A small group, deep dive into a single Thought Experiment
The Fitzroy Tavern, 16 Charlotte Street, W1T 2LY, London, GBA smaller, quieter, and less rushed edition of THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS.
At TEiP DEEP, we have the chance to spend a whole hour and a half on one thought experiment, exploring different perspectives, coming up with new questions, listening and learning from one another.
How it works:
- We split into small groups for each chapter of the thought experiment (3-4).
- We shuffle every 25 mins to meet new people and change things up.
- And at the end we'll have a brief group reflection, sharing ideas and insights - this will be lightly facilitated to ensure that everyone has a chance to speak if they want to (no pressure). Some simple ground rules to keep our conversation the best it can be:
- respect for one another’s perspectives, beliefs, time (etc.)
- confidentiality of personal stories
- own your perspective
- you don’t have to talk if you don’t want to.
Our aim is the same as our bigger Thought Experiments in Pubs meetups: a chance to meet and talk at about meaningful, thought provoking things.
Although we’ll be going a bit ‘deeper’, we’ll keep the intention to have an enjoyable evening, with good humour and fun.
Places are limited to 15-20 people and tickets are £5.
Please update your RSVP if you can no longer attend so that someone else can have your place.
Who should come:
Everyone! We believe that the more perspectives, the richer the conversation. This group is not about being experts in Philosophy, it is about doing philosophy. That is, bringing our various life experiences and lenses on the world to group discussions about the human experience, the nature of reality... etc. etc....Where we'll meet:
The Fitzroy Tavern in Fitzrovia. The nearest Tube stations are Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road.Looking forward to meeting & talking with you :-)

- 8:30 Meetup ‘ends’. But feel free to carry on conversations. We have the room until 10pm and usually a lot of us stay until then :-)
Notes on the general atmosphere:
- The vibe is to let conversation flow rather than stick strictly to one topic.
- While we'd like to talk about 'meaningful things', we also see the value in lighter topics, so don't worry about not being 'deep' enough!
- Feel free to suggest ideas for future Thought Experiments in Pubs meetup groups, both in terms of structure and topics to discuss.

REGISTER INTEREST: THOUGHT EXPERIMENT WRITING WORKSHOP: cultivate curiosity :-)
TBC Central London, London, GBA special event to share the delightful practice of writing thought experiments.
*NB: this event page is just for registering interest. Date, location, and ticket details TBC once I know whether this is something people are interested in*
Here's why I find writing thought experiments valuable.
In a nutshell, writing thought experiments creates opportunities to:
- investigate ideas (old and new)
- work your imagination
- write creatively and playfully
- produce compelling conversation starters that you can share with friends and strangers to provoke great discussions
In this workshop, I'll share my process and together we'll create new thought experiments by:
- Identifying areas of interest
- Gathering ingredients for thought experiments
- Imagining scenarios
- Constructing narratives
- Generating relevant, thought provoking questions
- Participating in a round of small group discussions - you can volunteer your new thought experiment, or if you'd rather, you can pick one out of the hat.
By the end of the evening, we'll have had some great conversations, become familiar with a new method for creative thinking, and written our own original material for future group discussions :-)
Although we’ll be learning a new skill, we'll also be aiming to have an enjoyable evening, with good humour and fun. This will be less like school and more like a great TEiP night out with an additional creative twist.
Who should come:
Everyone! We believe that the more perspectives, the richer the conversation. This group is not about being experts, it is about thinking creatively together and learning new ways to develop and communicate ideas.Where we'll meet:
