About us
A laid-back group focussed on good conversation with minimal structure.
We take thought experiments as conversational jumping off points and see how ideas flow from there.
Everyone welcome! The more perspectives, the richer the conversation.

FREE TEiP PARTY IN THE PARK • REGENTS PARK | Thought Experiments in Public
Regents Park, NW1 4NR, London, GBOur July party has proven so popular, we're doing it again in August 🎈😊
The theme for this event is TBD - let me know your ideas by comments @thoughtexperimentsinpubs
We will explore the theme by way of three thought experiments (tiny stories that raise big questions), posted on our substack on the day of the event (more info on how it all works below).
We love meeting in Regents Park because it has lots of beautiful big trees that provide shade during heatwaves, and shelter during downpours.
Here is the **EXACT LOCATION **and here is a little video showing how to get there from the Gloucester Gate entrance to Regent's park (more directions below if you need them).---
The idea: A chance to meet and get straight into meaningful conversations - both deep and light are welcome!
How we'll do it (timings approximate):
- 3:00pm - Meet in the park (exact location)
- Organise ourselves into small groups (3-6ish)
- Have a look at the thought experiments (posted on our Substack on the day of the event).
- 3:15pm - First rotation begins - Talk about the first thought experiment. Feel free to let your conversations flow organically and wander off topic. If you'd like to bring things back, you have several 'questions to consider' that you can suggest to the group.
- 3:40pm - Shuffle: swap groups, move on to the second thought experiment.
- 4:10pm - Shuffle: swap groups, move on to the third thought experiment.
- 4:40pm - Votes! (optional, unscientific votes to get a sense of the group's opinions)
5:00 - Organised meetup ‘ends’. Party continues!
Notes on the general atmosphere:
- The vibe is to let conversation flow rather than stick strictly to one topic.
- While we'd like to talk about 'meaningful things', we also see the value in lighter topics, so don't worry about not being 'deep' enough!
- Feel free to suggest ideas for future Thought Experiments in Pubs meetup groups, both in terms of structure and topics to discuss.
Who should come:
Everyone! We believe that the more perspectives, the richer the conversation. This group is not about being experts in Philosophy, it is about doing philosophy. That is, bringing our various life experiences and lenses on the world to group discussions about the human experience, the nature of reality... etc. etc....What to bring:
- Something to sit on - picnic rug, plastic bag, camping chair, whatever you prefer
- Drinks/snacks for yourself (you can share if you want to, but there's no pressure)
- Layers, sunglasses, sunblock, umbrella... it's London
Where we'll meet:
- Please use this link to navigate to our exact location: https://what3words.com/grand.frogs.vouch
Directions:
- The closest tube station is Camden Town.
- The closest park entrance is Gloucester Gate.
- I have made a little video of how to get there from Gloucester Gate
- And here are written directions: Enter the park from Gloucester Gate. Take the path to the left. You will see a coffee kiosk on your right. Immediately beyond that, there is a little dirt path on the left. Take the little dirt path and follow it across a small ditch and onto a big lawn. Walk straight across the lawn, away from the park entrance, about 50 meters and you will find us.
- If you are coming from any other direction, it will be easiest to find us using the location link: https://what3words.com/grand.frogs.vouch
- Our banners will be on display, so we should be easy to spot!
- I have chosen this spot because there is lots of shade. It is also fairly close to a cafe (with toilets).

SPECIAL: TEiP X MOONSTRUCK • PHILOSOPHY & COFFEE | Thought Experiments in Public
Moonstruck Cafe, 153 S Lambeth Road,, London, GBWe're heading to one of the top 10 cafes in London for a special event about the PHILOSOPHY OF COFFEE ☕️
In July, I met up with a TEiP community member, Lionel Crasto (who also happens to be an award winning barista and coffee ambassador) to talk about philosophy and coffee.
He said to me that "when it comes to the philosophy of coffee, it just depends how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go"... we went deep!
Together we're bringing you three thought experiments paired with coffee tasting (decaf options available).
The event will be at Moonstruck Cafe, one of the top 10 coffee shops in London (Best Coffee Guide) and top 20 in the whole of Europe! What better place to explore the philosophy (and taste) of coffee?
Spaces are very limited, so get your ticket early if you want to be there 😊

TEiP SUMMER CAMP • FREE RETREAT • THE HEATH | Thought Experiments in Public
Hampstead Heath, Greater, S Hill Park, London, NW3 2QD, London, GBA free day retreat under the trees of Hampstead Heath, co-produced by our community.
WHY: Humans are naturally creative, naturally social, and naturally part of nature.
Modern life squeezes our creativity, our time together, and our time outside.
We want to make space (physically, temporally, economically) for people to come together, be creative, and connect with nature.
How does this connect to THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS (TEiP)?
TEiP has become a thriving community because our events create opportunities for people to get straight into meaningful, imaginative, creative conversations. We want to take that imagination and creativity to the next level.
We've met so many people with skills and ideas to share, and so many people up for trying new things.
So we're creating an opportunity for people to share and learn from one another in the same openminded, relaxed spirit as TEiP.
And we're doing it outside because it's Summer, we love nature, and our last outside event attracted a huge number of RSVPs demonstrating major enthusiasm for outdoor gatherings.
How will it work?
- We'll gather in the forest of Hampstead Heath for a day.
- There will be a central hub for 'hanging out', refreshments, and the occasional TEiP style round of conversation.
- In nearby clearings and 'rooms of the forest', throughout the day, there will be optional activities hosted by community members (e.g. improv, forest bathing, poetry, yoga, etc.)
- It will all be free!
Please get in touch if you'd like to run an activity 😊
And please come along if you'd like to hang out and possibly try something new ❤️
Notes on the general atmosphere:
- The vibe is relaxed, collaborative, and friendly.
- Participate in as much or as little as you wish.
- We appreciate both depth and levity in our conversations.
- A 'beginner's mind' takes the pressure off everything.
Who should come:
Everyone! This group is not about being experts. The more perspectives, the richer our conversations and the richer our collective creativity. By bringing our various life experiences and lenses on the world together, we all become a little wiser. What to bring:
- Something to sit on - picnic rug, camping chair, plastic bag (handy because it can double as a bin-bag at the end of the day)
- Water
- Other drinks/snacks for yourself (you can share if you want to, but there's no pressure)
- Layers, sunglasses, sunblock, umbrella... it's London
Where we'll meet:
- Hampstead Heath. Exact location TBD. I will share a what3words link when we've found the perfect spot.
