TEiP X DEBATE LONDON • PART 2 | Thought Experiments in Public

A special collaboration between TEiP and Debate London...
We will explore 'debate' through the lens of philosophy and 'philosophy' through the lens of debate in two special events:

PART 1 (held previosuly): On the 14th of September, Debate London came to TEiP and we discussed three thought experiments on the theme of 'DEBATE'

PART 2 (this event): On the 14th of October, TEiP will visit Debate London to participate in a series of debate games designed to provoke light, fun and interesting conversations to bring peoplee together through open dialogue.

THIS EVENT
We'll meet at Debate London's Whitechapel Venue, the beautiful White Hart right next to Whitechapel Station.

We'll explore ideas around modern dating & relationships by way of simple questions which invite attendees to discuss their thoughts, experiences and any fun ideas or anecdotes that might pop up along the way!

The session will be lead by Debate London Founder Michael Pautsch with a few fun topics to kick things off as the night builds to either a fun showcase debate based on the answers you all provide on the night.

Spaces are limited and tickets are likely to sell out fast, so get your ticket early if you want to be there!

The idea: A chance to meet and talk meaningfully about thought provoking topics.

How we'll do it (timings approximate):

• 7:00pm - Arrive at The White Hart. You can access the pub from the main road via any of their 3 entrances. We will be upstairs in the private bar space.
• Organise ourselves into small groups (4-6 people per group)
• Get to know the people around you and settle in for some light hearted topics.
• 7:15 - First rotation begins - conversation starters. These topics are designed to get us talking about some light & fun ideas. but feel free to veer off topic if that's where the conversation takes you.
• 7:35 - Optional reshuffle: swap groups, move on to the second "debate"
• 8:00 - Showcase debate building from the earlier topics or some more table debates depending on how the room feels.
• 8:45pm - Wrap up - hear about upcoming events, feedback/requests for future meetups.
• 9:00PM Meetup ‘ends’ and the post event hang-out begins. Feel free to carry on conversations. We have the room until 10pm and usually a lot of us stay until then :-)

Notes on the general atmosphere:

• The vibe is to let conversation flow rather than stick strictly to one topic.
• While we'd like to talk about 'meaningful things', we also see the value in lighter topics, so don't worry about not being 'deep' enough!
• Feel free to suggest ideas for future debate socials, both in terms of structure and topics to discuss.

Where we'll meet:
This group will be at The White Hart. The nearest Tube station is Whitechapel station, but its also a short walk from Bethnal Green. We will be in the upstairs private bar area, just follow the posters for the event :)

Who should come:
Everyone! We believe that the more perspectives, the richer the conversation. This group is not about being experts in Debate or Philosophy, it is about doing Debate & philosophy. That is, bringing our various life experiences and lenses on the world to group discussions about the human experience, the nature of reality... etc....
