About the Event
Healthcare is where design gets real. Every product, service and space has to work for patients and clinicians under pressure, and within a dense web of regulation, data protection and clinical reality.
For our third collaboration with UX Healthcare Europe, we're bringing that tension into one room. As the official community pre-event of UX Healthcare Berlin (October 7–8), this special edition looks at healthcare design from three angles:
- Policy.
Before a health product reaches a single patient in Germany, it has to make its way through medical device regulation, data protection and reimbursement rules. Preetha Moorthy, Usability Engineer & UX Consultant at Heidelberg University (Mannheim), leads the M²AXI lab, where she designs and evaluates digital health technologies. In her talk Design challenges in designing health technologies, she shows what it takes to build usable, human-centered health tech within the requirements and restrictions of the German market.
- Product.
Noah Petermann, Co-Founder of Aniva Health, is building preventive diagnostics that turn a single blood draw into 100+ biomarkers, clinician-reviewed insights and a personal action plan. With a background in health-tech and biotech startups and venture capital, he uses Aniva as the example to show what it takes to build a health product in Germany: how the product came together, the challenges along the way, and what actually worked for them.
- Practice.
Scott Marin, MD, Emergency Physician, Design Clinician and Founder of Northern Insights Innovation, brings more than a decade of clinical and leadership experience across the Canadian Arctic. In Procedural wayfinding in healthcare, he shows how service design thinking can shape the way clinicians move through a space while carrying out procedures in critical care.

Expect three 15-minute lightning talks, followed by three discussion tables on policy, product and practice, each hosted by one of our speakers, so you can dig deeper, ask your questions and bring your own experience.

Lightning talk: Design challenges in designing health technologies
Designing a health product in Germany means designing for far more than your users. Regulation, certification, data protection and reimbursement shape what's possible long before the first prototype is tested. Preetha shares what it really takes to build usable, human-centered health technology within the requirements and restrictions of the German market, and where policy and design meet (and sometimes collide).
About Preetha: She is a usability engineer and researcher at Heidelberg University, working at the intersection of HCI and healthcare. She leads the M²AXI lab and focuses on designing and evaluating digital health technologies, with a particular interest in usability and human-centered approaches to healthcare technology.

Lightning talk: How to launch diagnostics within your brand in weeks.
What does it really take to build a health product in Germany? Using Aniva Health as the example, Noah walks us through the product itself (one blood draw, 100+ biomarkers, clinician-reviewed insights and a personal action plan) and the journey behind it: the challenges the team faced along the way, and what actually worked for them.
About Noah: He is co-founder and CEO of Aniva Health, a Berlin-based health-tech company building the infrastructure for preventive, data-driven medicine, with blood-draw locations across Germany. Before founding Aniva, he worked with VC-backed health-tech and biotech startups and in venture capital, and studied at Humboldt University of Berlin.

Lightning talk: Procedural wayfinding in healthcare
In critical care, finding your way through a space and carrying out a procedure happen at the same time, and each shapes the other. Procedural wayfinding, a term Scott coined, looks at exactly that interaction. Scott walks us through how to apply service design thinking to wayfinding in clinical procedural environments, with concrete strategies, techniques and short examples from emergency care.
About Scott: He is an emergency physician, design clinician and founder of Northern Insights Innovation. Drawing on more than a decade of clinical and leadership experience across the Canadian Arctic, he explores how people navigate complex systems under pressure, turning frontline insights into safer, clearer and more humane services.
