**\*\*\*HIKE CANCELLED\*\*\***

It's time for a hike to Mt. Woodson and the iconic Potato Chip Rock. This is the hike where you will get that awesome photo for your next profile pic.

In order to make the drive worthwhile for our Los Angeles friends, we will be doing an extended version of this hike where we will be adding more distance and elevation gain than the typical Potato Chip Rock hike. See the description below for the options. I will be hiking option # 3, which will be about **13.5 miles** with over **3,000 ft.** of elevation gain. But there are options for lesser distances if you are willing to hike back to the trailhead on your own.

We will be starting the hike relatively early in order to beat the crowds to the "Potato Chip." We will be taking the shortest possible route on the way up on the asphalt fire road; 1,500 ft. in less than 2 miles. We will be at the "chip" by 8:00 a.m. before the crowds arrive. There will be no line to wait in, and we should have the rock to ourselves, allowing all of you to take your individual photos.

We will offer 4 different options for your return loop depending on how much hiking you want to do.

The first option will be hiking down the Mt. Woodson trail for a mile and then going down the beautiful, less traveled Fry-Koegel trail. The total distance for this loop will be about **6 miles**. You may even run into Mr. Fry doing maintenance on his trail. He was there the last time we hiked it.

The second option will be to leave the chip and hike all the way down to Lake Poway via the Mt. Woodson trail and then turn around and go right back up to the Fry-Koegel trail for the return trip down to our cars. This option will be a total distance of about **10 miles** and a total climb of about **3,000 ft.**

The third option is to hike about 2 miles past the Lake Poway stop down into the Blue Sky Preserve and turn around at the day-use picnic area where we will take a lunch break in a beautiful grove of oak trees. The total distance for this option will be about **13.5 miles.**

The fourth option, for the uber-hikers, is to continue past the day use picnic area for another 2 miles and climb another 1,000 ft. to Lake Ramona. The total distance for this option will be about **16 miles**.

No matter what option you choose, it will be a memorable hike with amazing views at an incredible setting.

If you plan on doing the 13.5-mile version with me, carry a minimum of 3 liters of water, a lunch, and enough snacks to last for a 6-hour hike. If you plan on one of the shorter versions or the longer one, carry one liter of water for every 3 miles you are going to hike.
