Analytics for Insight and Action

ABSTRACT

Most data begin as real-time events. Recent advances in sensors, machines, vehicles, mobile phones and social media networks are pushing organizations towards streaming analytics applications, in order to manage threats and develop business opportunities.

Some challenges include integrating real-time and historical data sources, applying analytics to capture insights, and turning those insights in to actions for decision support and automated action. Such real-time streaming analytics solutions must enable data scientists, developers, and IT staff, without requiring extensive custom code or brittle integration of third party components.

This presentation focuses on the elements and challenges in developing streaming analytics applications. Examples from both engineering and business areas are provided in context. e.g. oil & gas exploration and production; and financial services client and back office systems monitoring.
