What we’re about
Is it possible, in this deeply fractured political environment, to debate on issues that are highly charged on both sides. Currently many people’s political opinions seem to be largely based on digital soundbites, often with little basis in fact or depth.
I am curious to see if it will be possible to organize a series of civilized debates. I know Orange County is split relatively evenly between the left and the right. So there should be plenty of advocates on either side.
The absolutely critical part of this concept for me, is that the participants communicate in these debates with respect. No resorting to any of the inflammatory antics so commonly seen and that they shake hands at the end of the debate. I have a number of other ideas regarding the conduct of the debates but will not bore you here initially.
Is this possible or are we so broken that any acknowledgment of the virtue of another‘s argument is treachery? I know there are a lot of people who would like to talk about numerous different topics, but are nervous and scared of angry confrontation.
So at this point I know that I can certainly not do this alone and am politely inquiring as to who amongst you might be interested in making this idea develop beyond a talking point - pun intended. I am very keen to have both sides represented in the discussion otherwise it will fail before we start.
Message me here on Meet-Up if this appeals at all and I can start a WhatsApp group to simplify communication.
