The presented topics are:
Higher level programming with Scala - Cristian Popovici (Application Architect @ IBM)
Scala is a type-safe, hybrid programming language that has grown popular due to its versatility and elegance.
In this presentation we'll discuss why Scala is a better object oriented language than Java, will dive in functional programming and discuss topics as pure functions, side effects, immutability, persistent data structures and type classes. The goal is to get a glimpse on how a modern language can shape the way you think about computation.
Knowledge is Everything - Cristian Ionitoiu (Application Architect @ IBM)
BPM (Business Process Management) and BRMS (Business Rule Management Systems) are two paradigms that complement each other in knowledge management for enterprises.
In Java world, Drools and jBPM are two corresponding technologies that fit in these shoes. We'll discuss, each of them, look at how they could work together and study real-world use cases (Drools).
