Helping Hands National Trails Day volunteer project on the John Muir Trail
Hosted by Tennessee Wild MeetUp!
Details
Join us for our first Helping Hands project of 2013. On Saturday June 1, 2013 National Trails Day will be celebrated across America. We will be focusing on the eastern end of the John Muir Trail, and bringing this National Recreation Trail back to standard. The day will include clearing the trail corridor, rebuilding switchbacks, and reshaping the tread where it has eroded or slumped down the hill.
No previous trail maintenance experience is necessary. Volunteers will need to wear boots and long pants. A bag lunch and at least 2 liters of water are also essential gear. Additional safety gear (hard hats & safety glasses) and tools will be provided by our partners at the USDA Forest Service.
The full scope of the project is still in the planning phase, but suffice to say that we will need lots of volunteers as well as experienced trail hands to provide leadership. Opportunities to camp overnight after the work day will be available.
Join us & give a little something back with a day of service. It's rewarding and great exercise!
