• Up and Back Again, by Marvin Bernal, TWG

This talk will delve into details of Android App Design, especially how it differs from other fruity platforms. We will go over some Android terminology such as the Navigation Bar, Action Bar and Action Overflow, the concepts of Activities and Intents, how to design for an infinite amount of screens and some delightful concepts of Material Design.

Marvin Bernal is an Android Developer currently at The Working Group. He has worked on Android for 3 years in the industry working on a variety of applications including The Globe and Mail tablet and phone applications as well as designing medical applications at UHN, Toronto General Hospital. In addition he has a huge interest in UX design and is fascinated about the design of every day things.

• Fast List Scrolling with ORMLite, by Eric Fung, Shopify
"Buttery-smooth" list scrolling is an important part of ensuring a good user experience. But achieving this when rendering data from multiple database tables can be tricky. This talk will describe the steps I took to debug the performance issues and arrive at a solution using ORMLite.

Eric currently works on Android apps at Shopify. He has worked previously at Zynga and Five Mobile building mobile games and apps, and spent the first part of his career developing cryptographic toolkits and applications at BlackBerry and Certicom.
