For November, our book club is diving into Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Word for World Is Forest — a powerful and thought-provoking novella set on the lush planet of Athshe, where human colonists exploit both the land and its peaceful inhabitants.
First published in 1972 as part of Le Guin’s Hainish Cycle, this short book packs a punch — exploring themes of colonialism, ecology, resistance, and the clash between vastly different ways of life. It’s a story that still feels deeply relevant today.
