For our next stop on the world tour, we’re heading to Egypt with Children of the Alley by Naguib Mahfouz.

Set in a Cairo alley, the novel follows generations of families whose lives echo larger philosophical and spiritual questions. Through symbolic characters and layered storytelling, Mahfouz reflects on themes like power, faith, injustice, and the search for meaning. It’s a rich, thought-provoking read that blends everyday life with deeper allegory perfect for a lively discussion.
This time, we’re trying something new: to make room for more people, we’ve chosen two books for one meeting. Alongside Children of the Alley, we’ll also be discussing Greek Lessons.
You can choose one of the two books to read:

  • If you’d like to join the Children of the Alley discussion, simply respond here to RSVP for this group.
  • If you prefer Greek Lessons, please check out the other event.

We’ll still meet at our usual cozy café, but we’ll have separate tables for each book so you’ll be surrounded by others who read the same story, ready to share thoughts over warm drinks ☕
